What is Nyaya Setu?
Nyaya Setu is a digital initiative launched by the Government of India in August 2024. Its aim is to improve access to legal aid for people. This service is designed to ensure that citizens receive prompt guidance without getting entangled in complex bureaucratic processes. Now, with direct WhatsApp integration, it will become even easier for citizens to access legal assistance through this platform. The Ministry of Law and Justice wrote in an X post that this update “ensures that professional legal assistance is always quick and easily accessible to every citizen.”
Getting Legal Aid Will Become Easier
Nyaya Setu leverages the popularity and ease of use of WhatsApp to bridge the gap between legal resources and Indian citizens. By providing a user-friendly interface on a widely used messaging app, this platform removes common barriers associated with accessing legal assistance. Citizens no longer need to visit legal offices in person for basic assistance or information, making legal guidance more accessible to a larger population.

If you want to get legal information or advice from Nyaya Setu on WhatsApp, you can do so by messaging the number ‘7217711814’ on the app. This number will appear as ‘Tele-Law’ on WhatsApp, and will provide you with options for legal advice, legal information, and legal assistance. The Nyaya Setu chatbot will first ask you to verify your mobile number. After the verification is complete, you will be able to receive legal advice in the chat. We tried using this feature, but encountered an error in the chatbot during the verification process.
However, you can now get legal information and assistance from the Nyay Setu WhatsApp chatbot even without verifying your mobile number. The Nyay Setu chatbot is available to all WhatsApp users in India and can be accessed on Android, iOS, and the web.
