BYD Fast Charging: Chinese company BYD has surprised many by introducing a new battery that can be fully charged in just 5 minutes.

BYD Fast Charging: It has been reported that the new battery of BYD from China will provide a range of 400 km if fully charged.
400 km range in 5 minutes
China-headquartered BYD is an international manufacturer of electric vehicles. In this case, BYD has unveiled the Super E-platform, an all-electric architecture with a battery charging speed of up to 1,000kW. Notably, this is twice as fast as the latest Tesla V4 charger. BYD has also developed a battery that can provide a range of 400 km in five minutes of charging. This is comfortably ahead of Tesla’s Superchargers. According to the announcement, it is noteworthy that a Tesla car can travel up to 275 km in 15 minutes.
Battery
This new plate battery, called ‘flash charge’, uses a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemical compound. While battery capacity and weight were not disclosed, the Chinese car brand said it has achieved a 10C charging multiplier. This allows for single-digit (5 minutes) charging speed figures. Note that a higher C-rate will be directly proportional to the faster charging speed.
1,000kW BYD charger
In the updated BYD Han L sedan and Tang L SUV models, the new battery maintained a high level of charging power. Even at a 90 percent charge state, it went up to 600kW. BYD has also developed a new 1,000kW charger that can be used at 4,000 BYD charging stations in China.
New generation electric motors
The Super E platform gets new high-revving motors that reach up to 30,511rpm. This is the highest of any electric motor ever produced, according to the company. The four-wheel drive BYD Tang L and Han L EVs use a 788hp rear motor and a 312hp front motor. This combined produces 1,100hp. This will allow the Han L and Tang L to reach 100km/h in 2.7 seconds and 3.6 seconds, respectively. The new technology is said to allow the cars to reach 100km/h in 2 seconds.
BYD said the new battery will allow some of its cars to charge almost as fast as it normally takes to fill up at a gas pump. The company plans to start selling vehicles with the new technology from April.
