Fake ATM News: The news of ATMs being shut down on social media has turned out to be fake. Many banks including SBI, PNB have confirmed that all ATMs and digital services are running normally. PIB has also fact-checked the viral news and declared it false. The public has been appealed not to trust unverified information.

Fake ATM News: The news of ATMs of banks in the country being closed for two-three days amid the mutual tension between India and Pakistan turned out to be completely fake. This news was becoming increasingly viral on social media. Press Information Bureau (PIB), which fact checks fake news going viral on social media, and the country’s two major banks, State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB), have called such news fake.
SBI-PNB claims: There is enough cash in ATMs
Many other banks of the country, including State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank, said on Friday that their ATMs are fully operational, there is enough cash in them and digital services are working smoothly. This statement was issued in the backdrop of reports on social media, which claimed that ATMs may be closed in the coming days due to increasing tension between India and Pakistan.
SBI gave information on X
India’s largest public sector bank, State Bank of India, has informed its customers through its post on the social media platform ‘X’, “All our ATMs, CDM/ADWM and digital services are fully operational and available to the public.” India’s largest lender bank has also advised its customers not to trust unverified information. Along with SBI, Bank of Baroda, Punjab & Sind Bank, Canara Bank and Bank of India also issued similar messages.
Digital services running as before
Punjab National Bank wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “All our digital services are also running smoothly, ensuring you a seamless banking experience from home.” Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold a review meeting on cyber security preparedness of banks and financial institutions in the evening.
