IMD Today’s Weather: The weather is changing across the country. IMD has predicted rain in UP, Uttarakhand, Delhi-NCR. There is an alert of heavy rain in Gujarat and dust storm in Rajasthan. The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Mumbai and Thane.

The mood of the weather across the country has changed these days. While the month of May is known for scorching heat with hot winds, but these days the weather remains pleasant in most parts of the country. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has again given happy news. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), many parts of the country including UP, Uttarakhand, Delhi-NCR will see light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds today. Heavy to very heavy rains have been warned especially in Gujarat, while there is an alert for dust storm in Rajasthan. Hailstorms are also expected in Uttarakhand, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. At the same time, the series of rains will continue in North East and South India as well. This changing mood of the weather can become a challenge for many states.
Mumbai and surrounding areas are likely to receive moderate to heavy rains in two days. Due to this, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Mumbai and Thane on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Chances of rain from Delhi to UP
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh today. Strong winds at the speed of 40-50 km/h are expected in these areas along with thunderstorms and lightning. On the other hand, hailstorms are expected at some places in Uttarakhand today, while dust storm alert has been issued in western Rajasthan.
In the forecast issued by IMD, it has been told that there is a warning of heavy to very heavy rain in Gujarat. IMD said that heavy rains may cause waterlogging in some areas. On the other hand, light rains may occur in Goa, Konkan, Marathwada, and Madhya Maharashtra with strong winds at the speed of 40-50 km/h.
Chances of rain in Bihar, Jharkhand, MP too
Along with this, there may be rain at sporadic places in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Sikkim today. On the other hand, there is a possibility of thunderstorms and lightning along with rain in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh.
The Meteorological Department has warned that hailstorms may occur at some places in Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh today, which may damage crops. At the same time, an alert of sporadic heavy rains has also been issued in Odisha.
Heavy rains in North-East and South India
According to the IMD, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh will also receive rain today. Along with this, there is also a warning of thunderstorms and lightning. There is a possibility of sporadic heavy rains in some parts of these states, which may continue till tomorrow. On the other hand, light to moderate rains will continue in Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. There is a warning of heavy rains at some places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and coastal Andhra Pradesh today.
The IMD has advised all the affected states to remain alert. In view of heavy rains in Gujarat, the administration has been asked to be prepared to deal with the waterlogging situation in low-lying areas. There is a possibility of reduced visibility due to dust storm in Rajasthan, due to which road traffic may be affected. In view of hailstorm in Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh, farmers have been advised to take necessary steps to save their crops. Also, people have been appealed to stay away from trees and electric poles during strong winds and storm.
