Indian Railways: Traveling by Indian Railways has always been considered comfortable. Even with the growing trend of air travel, people prefer to travel by train for long distance travel. With its large network, Indian Railways connects almost every important place and city of the country. Apart from taking passengers from one place to another, Indian Railways promotes the country’s economy. While traveling by train, many passengers worry that if their ticket is lost or torn, will the TTE take them off the train or allow them to travel. In such a situation, know what is the rule of Indian Railways?
Traveling without ticket
If you are caught traveling without a ticket, then action is taken by the Railways. In these actions, you are fined. You have to pay the fine amount along with the fare. The penalty can be at least Rs 250 or double the amount of the ticket. But if you are unable to pay the fine, the TTE can drop you at the next station and hand you over to the railway police.
Buying a ticket in the middle of the journey
Sometimes passengers want to buy a ticket after boarding the train. This is possible but it can be done only when a seat is vacant. For this, an extra charge is taken over the normal fare.
Ticket lost or torn
If your ticket is lost or torn during the journey, you will not be considered a ticketless passenger. You can get a duplicate ticket from the TTE. To get it, you will have to pay a fixed amount. Apart from this, you will have to show a valid ID for identification. If you have an online ticket in your mobile, then you do not need a duplicate ticket. You can show your e-ticket on your mobile to the TTE and it is valid.
Refund for late trains
According to railway rules, if your train is delayed by 3 hours or more, you can also claim a refund. To do this, you have to submit a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt). In case of any emergency (such as theft or assault) during train travel, you can call the railway helpline number 139 or lodge a complaint with the TTE or Railway Police.
