Operation Sindoor: What is the ‘Loitering Munition’ technology with which India precisely attacked 9 terrorist bases in Pakistan?

India has destroyed 9 terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoJK) under Operation Sindoor. In this precise and swift action, a special technique was used which is called ‘Loitering Munition’.

Now the question is, what is this Loitering Munition? And how did it surprise the enemies and cause great damage?

What is Loitering Munition?

Loitering Munition, which is also commonly called ‘Kamikaze Drone’, is a smart weapon that first flies like a drone, monitors the area and then as soon as the enemy’s hideout is seen, it attacks it just like a missile.

These drone-like weapons hover in the sky for some time (that is why they are called ‘Loitering’) and as soon as the target is confirmed, they drop themselves on the enemy.

Special features of this technique

  • Precise target: They attack their target in a very accurate manner.
  • Less damage: Does not harm common people or surrounding areas.
  • Real-time control: Operators can directly control them or can also work autonomously.
  • No risk: No soldier’s life is in danger in this.
  • Can kill the enemy even while moving.

How was it used in Operation Sindoor?

On 22 April 2025, 25 Indians and 1 Nepali citizen lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. After this, India took immediate action and the Army, Air Force and Navy together started ‘Operation Sindoor’. During this operation, with the help of intelligence agencies, 9 terrorist bases present in Pakistan and PoJK were identified. Then while staying within the border of India, these bases were destroyed with Loitering Munition.

In the attack, the hideouts of dangerous organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were targeted. The special thing was that no Pakistani military base was targeted.

An example of India’s strength and wisdom

Through this operation, India has given two messages simultaneously and that is that India will not show any leniency against terrorists. But the answer will be such that it will be given thoughtfully, limited and in a precise manner.

Reaction of leaders and public

The Indian Army was praised all over the country for the success of Operation Sindoor. All political parties praised the strategy and courage of the army. People also praised this technique and operation on social media.
