PM E-Drive Scheme: The central government has introduced this new subsidy scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Electric-Drive Vriddhi Yojana. Through this, along with electrification of three-wheeled trucks, buses and public transport across the country, the government will provide a subsidy of up to Rs 19 lakh to the owners of those trucks and buses.

PM E-Drive Scheme: The Centre will provide subsidies for your electric car. However, this subsidy will not be available on all cars. It will be available only on vehicles like e-trucks and buses. Basically, the Centre is giving extra priority to e-trucks or electric trucks to reduce carbon emissions. In that regard, the government will also provide subsidies of up to Rs 19 lakh to car owners under a special project.
The central government has introduced this new subsidy scheme under the Prime Minister Electric-Drive Growth Scheme. Through this, in addition to electrifying three-wheeled trucks, buses and public transport across the country, the government will provide a subsidy of up to Rs 19 lakh to the owners of those trucks and buses. The Centre has already allocated 500 crore taka under this project to provide that subsidy.
Experts say that this move of the government will be good for the environment in the coming days. Pollution and carbon dioxide levels are increasing. Sudden weather changes, excessive heat, rain, disasters, all are signs of this ‘red signal’. In this situation, this government decision is of practical importance. Moreover, from a commercial point of view, this government decision will benefit the country’s leading battery-powered vehicle manufacturers such as Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland and Mahindra.
How will this subsidy be provided?
The Centre is yet to take a final decision on this subsidy. However, according to reports, the Central Government will provide subsidy to buyers based on the capacity of the car’s battery. In this case, it has proposed two models. One of them provides a subsidy of Rs. 5,000 per kilowatt-hour. The second is providing up to Rs. 7,500. However, the final decision on which model this centre will operate is pending.
