Today Bank Holiday: Are you thinking of going to the bank today? If you have cash withdrawal, passbook update or other important work related to the bank, then first know whether the banks are open or closed today. Let us tell you that today i.e. on Monday, 14 April 2025, there is a government holiday in many states in the country. And this is the reason why today is also a holiday in the Holiday Calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI Holiday Calendar). Are banks open or closed on Ambedkar Jayanti?

Let us tell you that in most of the states, banks will be closed today on the occasion of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s birthday and many regional festivals including Biju, Tamil New Year, Bihu.

Banks will remain closed in these states: Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh.

Apart from Ambedkar Jayanti, the states will also celebrate local festivals like Vishu, Biju, Buisu, Tamil New Year, Maha Vishuva Sankranti, Bohag Bihu and Cheiraoba.

It is worth noting that bank holidays in India vary from state to state and depend on national, regional and religious occasions.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has divided bank holidays into three categories:

-Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act

-Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and RTGS holidays

-Account closing holidays

Bank holidays in April: April Bank Holidays

April 15 (Tuesday) – Banks are closed in Assam, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh for Bengali New Year, Bohag Bihu and Himachal Day.

16 April (Wednesday)- Banks closed in Assam for Bohag Bihu.

18 April (Friday) – Good Friday: Banks will remain closed in Tripura, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh and Srinagar.

20 April (Sunday) – Regular weekend holiday.

21 April (Monday)- Garia Puja: Banks closed in Tripura.

26 April (Saturday) – Fourth Saturday: All banks will remain closed across India.

29 April (Tuesday)- Parashuram Jayanti: Banks closed in Himachal Pradesh.

30 April (Wednesday)- Basava Jayanti and Akshaya Tritiya: Banks closed in Karnataka.

Digital banking services will continue

Bank customers can use internet banking, SMS banking and WhatsApp banking services for financial and non-financial transactions if they are registered for the services with their banks.

Transactions such as checking account balance and statements, ordering cheque books, paying bills, recharging prepaid phones, transferring money, booking hotels and tickets for travel, viewing your expenses and many more can be carried out as usual.
