Train Ticket: As per current rules, Tatkal booking opens one day before the scheduled departure of the train from its origin station. A maximum of 4 passengers can be booked per PNR on Tatkal e-ticket. Tatkal charges are in addition to the normal ticket charges per passenger.

There has been no change in the timing of Tatkal or Premium Tatkal booking for the train. This has been clarified by IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation). This statement has been issued in response to the posts going on social media, which said that changes are being made in the Tatkal ticket booking system from 15 April 2025. This will increase the chances of getting tickets and will provide relief from long waiting. It was also said that agents will not be allowed to book tickets from 10 am to 12 noon, which will give a better chance to the general passengers.
But now under the clarification, IRCTC has said, “No such change is proposed in the Tatkal or Premium Tatkal booking timings for AC or non-AC classes. Also, no change has been made in the booking timings fixed for agents.” What is the right time for Tatkal ticket booking?
As per the current rules, Tatkal booking opens one day before the scheduled departure of the train from its origin station.
- For AC class (2A, 3A, CC, EC, 3E): Booking starts at 10:00 am
- For non-AC class (SL, FC, 2S): Booking starts at 11:00 am
Meaning if a train is scheduled to depart on April 15, booking of AC Tatkal ticket will start from 10:00 am on April 14 and booking of non-AC ticket will start from 11:00 am.
Charges for Tatkal ticket are higher
