Rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning continue in the hilly and plain areas of North West India including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh. Heavy rains are also occurring at different places in Northeast India. Rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are likely to continue in these areas as well as Nicobar Islands and West, Central and South Peninsular India during the next four to five days.

Severe heat and heatwave may occur in most parts of East India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday that during the last 24 hours till 8:30 am, winds blew at a speed of 60-70 kmph at different places in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Chandigarh, Marathwada, Meghalaya, Telangana. Wind speed was 30-60 kmph at different places in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Heavy rainfall was recorded at isolated places over western Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra and Kutch, Assam and Meghalaya, Tripura, Nicobar Islands and sub-Himalayan West Bengal. At the same time, hail also fell at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya.

When and where will the effect of active western disturbance be

The IMD said that a western disturbance is active as a cyclonic circulation in the lower troposphere over Punjab. Two separate cyclonic circulations prevail over northwest Uttar Pradesh and western Rajasthan. Some such weather systems are also present in Bihar, Jharkhand and Assam. Due to their effect, winds may blow at a speed of 50-60 kmph in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and eastern Rajasthan on May 13, Himachal Pradesh on May 16-17 and Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on May 14 and there may be sporadic to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning.

This will be the weather condition in West India

Konkan and Goa may experience winds at a speed of 30-40 kmph on 13 and 4 May, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada during 14-16 May, which may increase to 50 kmph. Apart from this, strong winds of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph are likely to blow in Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada on Tuesday.

Eastern and Central India

According to the Meteorological Department, there may be rain at isolated places in Chhattisgarh on 12 and 13 May with thunder, lightning and gusts of 60 kmph. Madhya Pradesh till 16 May, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during 13-15 May, Jharkhand on 16 May, Jharkhand, Bihar till 15-16 May and Odisha on 14 May may experience winds at a speed of 50 kmph and heavy rains may also occur.

Very heavy rains likely over Northeast India

Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya are likely to receive widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds till May 16, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till May 15. The rainfall is likely to be extremely heavy over Meghalaya on May 13.

Heat wave, heat wave and humid weather warning

Heat wave and humid weather are likely over East and West Uttar Pradesh during May 14-18, Sub Himalayan West Bengal on May 14 and 15 and Gangetic plains on May 15, Jharkhand during May 13-15. Hot and humid weather is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on Tuesday, Bihar till May 16 and severe heat wave is likely at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh on May 13. Heat wave may occur in many areas of West Rajasthan from Tuesday and the mercury may rise by 2-3 degrees. The maximum temperature can go up to 44-45 degree Celsius in border areas including Bikaner and Jodhpur.

Two killed due to lightning in Marathwada

Two people died due to lightning in Beed and Latur districts of Marathwada region of Maharashtra. Revenue department officials said that this incident happened on Sunday. Officials also said that some cattle have also died in rain-related incidents in Beed as well as Nanded district. On Monday, unseasonal rains in Nashik city have flooded many areas. This has caused heavy damage to onions, mangoes and vegetables.

Southwest monsoon continues to advance

The southwest monsoon is advancing on schedule and in a proper manner. Due to its effect, widespread rainfall as well as heavy rainfall was recorded in some places in the Nicobar Islands during the last 24 hours. Till Tuesday, favorable conditions remain for the advancement of southwest monsoon in the Andaman Sea, South Bay of Bengal and some parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Due to its effect, rainfall activity is likely to increase over the Nicobar Islands during the next 24 hours, which will turn into widespread rainfall and heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places.

Storm in Tripura…1,800 houses damaged

The storm has caused heavy devastation in the northeastern state of Tripura. The storm, accompanied by strong winds and rain on Sunday and Monday, damaged more than 1,800 houses across the state and displaced about a thousand people.

Orange alert issued

The Agartala Center of the Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Tripura, predicting heavy rains, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds for the next four days.

Hundreds of people homeless, take shelter in relief camps

According to the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), the storm has hit West Tripura.
