Jio and Airtel customers: recharge plans are not getting costlier for now—prices were set to rise by up to ₹50!

If you are a user of Jio, Airtel, or Vodafone Idea (Vi), this news will cheer you up. There had been speculation for some time that the country’s major telecom companies might hike mobile recharge plan prices again. Following the significant tariff hike in July 2024, many experts believed that companies might raise prices again within the next year or two. However, a new report suggests that such a move is unlikely to happen in the near future.

According to the report, telecom companies may refrain from raising recharge plan prices due to current global issues and rising inflation. Rising costs of fuel, food items, and logistics are already straining the pockets of the common man. Consequently, if mobile plans were to become more expensive, it would place an additional financial burden on customers. Nevertheless, experts still anticipate future tariff hikes, predicting that mobile plans could become up to 15 percent more expensive in the next round of price increases.

Cost of 28-day plans could rise by up to ₹50

According to a report by Telecom Talk, a 15 percent hike could increase the price of popular prepaid plans with 28-day validity by approximately ₹50. Plans currently offering 1.5GB of daily data are likely to see the most significant price changes. This would increase the monthly expenses for millions of mobile users. Future tariff hikes could impact not only 4G plans but also 5G services.

Major hike took place in July 2024

The country’s major telecom companies implemented a significant hike in mobile plan prices in July 2024. At that time, almost all popular recharge plans saw price increases. Following that, it was anticipated that companies might revise prices again within the next two years. Experts predict that the next time telecom companies raise prices, mobile plans could become up to 15 percent costlier. This will directly affect both prepaid and postpaid customers. On the other hand, if companies do not see an increase in their income, they might consider raising prices in the coming months.
