IMD Heavy Rain Alert: The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rains for some areas. IMD estimates that there is a possibility of heavy rains in more than 10 areas of the country. Along with rain, there is a possibility of strong winds in many areas and snowfall at some places. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert.

Heavy Rain Alert: The phase of rain continues in many states of the country. The Meteorological Department estimates that heavy to very heavy rains may occur in some areas in the next three days i.e. 13, 14 and 15 May. Apart from this, there is a possibility of rain in more than 10 states of the country. The Meteorological Department has predicted strong winds of 40 to 70 kilometers per hour for many areas. IMD has said that there may be snowfall in many parts. According to IMD, the southwest monsoon is likely to move towards the southern Andaman Sea, parts of the south-eastern Bay of Bengal and the Nicobar Islands around May 13.
Weather system across the country
According to the Meteorological Department, the Western Disturbance is 5.8 km above the surface in the form of a trough in the middle troposphere western winds. A trough is passing from Saurashtra to East Central Arabian Sea to North East Arabian Sea. The north-south trough from Marathwada to Gulf of Mannar is passing through interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu at lower tropospheric levels. A cyclonic circulation of upper air is formed over northeastern Assam and adjoining areas. Due to this, a change in weather is seen in the hilly areas of North India, Northeast and East India.
Possibility of heavy rain in these areas
- According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rains are likely in the Nicobar Islands on 12 and 13 May. Apart from this, light to moderate rain will continue in many areas.
- Rains with thunder and lightning are likely to continue in West, Central and South Peninsular India during the next 5 days.
- Heavy to very heavy rains with thunder and lightning are likely in Northeast India during the next 5 days.
Rain alert in North-West India
- According to IMD, there is a possibility of rain with thunder and strong winds in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad.
- During this time, the wind can blow at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour to 60 km per hour.
- On May 13, strong winds can blow in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, East Rajasthan.
- There is a possibility of strong winds like a storm in Himachal Pradesh during May 16 to 17.
- On May 14, strong winds can blow along with rain in Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad.
Weather of West India
- On May 13 and 14, winds can blow at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour to 60 km per hour in Konkan and Goa.
- During 14 to 16 May, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada are likely to experience winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph to 50 kmph.
- Strong winds may also blow in Gujarat state on 13 May.
Weather of East and Central India
- Chhattisgarh may receive sporadic to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds on 12 and 13 May.
- Madhya Pradesh during 13 to 16 May
- Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on 13-15 May
- Gangetic plains West Bengal during 13-14 May
- Jharkhand on 15 and 16 May
- Vidarbha on 13 May
- Andaman and Nicobar Islands till 15 May
- Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on 16 May
- Many districts of Bihar on 16 May
- Odisha on 13-14 May
These states may continue to experience strong winds with light to moderate rains in the coming days. During this period, the wind speed can reach from 30 to 40 kmph to 50 kmph. There is also a possibility of heavy rain in some areas. On May 13, very heavy rain may occur at different places in the Nicobar Islands.
