The company had been working on this feature for about a year. In the initial stage, the company is offering voice and video calling for individual chats to web clients. There is no need to install the desktop app for this. According to the report, users need to open the chat and tap the call button to make a call.
Protected by end-to-end encryption
Importantly, calls made through WhatsApp Web are protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring that users’ privacy is not compromised. According to the WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp Web calls will also support screen sharing, allowing users to share their screen in real time. To use this feature, the user must be in an active video call.
This WhatsApp feature is quite useful for Linux users because the company does not offer a desktop app for Linux. It’s worth noting that the company is currently offering this feature to users who have registered for the WhatsApp Web beta program.
