External data suggests that ChatGPT had already reached the 1 billion monthly user mark in June.
According to OpenAI, ChatGPT also reached 1 billion weekly users in July. In February 2026, the company had reported 900 million weekly active users for ChatGPT. This means the user base reached 1 billion within five months, though the pace of growth has slowed compared to the initial phase.
Gemini’s Growth Surprises
